I awoke to the sound of the hermit walking around in his kitchen trying to find some form of food. He was an ancient man who’s skin was wrinkled with age and the many years of living in the forest could be seen through his tattered clothing.
I walked towards him and asked “Why am I still on this journey that can’t seem to end?”
He looked at me with perplexed eyes, opened his mouth, revealing old and yellowed teeth. Then he closed his mouth and quickly looked away.
I repeated the question “Why am I still here?”
The hermit finally looked at me and said, “You are here because you are unwilling to see the reality of your actions.”
“I have done nothing wrong and have continued to protect my King with all that I have got to offer” I retorted.
“The act of death is not something that you can simply do on a whim and this is the cause of your trouble. You must think about the way in which your actions have not only brought shame to yourself but caused grievance to those who surround you” stated the Hermit.
I was still confused about what it is that I had done wrong if all I had done was follow the rules of protection and chivalry in the honor of the King. However, I began to think about the way in which that man’s family felt and realized the horrible mistake that I had done. I put my hands to my face and began to cry about the horrors that I had cause and finally was able to see the reason of my journey and the way in which I was completely at fault. I thanked the hermit and began towards my journey home after receiving this newfound knowledge.
